About
A study in material and form, transforming waste into something purposeful.
Inspired by the volume of materials discarded in the workshop each day, the project explores a more considered, sustainable approach to making.
The Need
To respond to the volume of waste generated in the workshop, often discarded without further use.
The project sought to explore how these materials could be reworked into something functional, considered, and enduring.
Workstreams
Material Exploration:
Sawdust, wood chips, and natural binders, tested for structure, texture, and finish.
Form & Function:
A minimal form designed for usability, durability, and quiet integration into its environment.
Prototyping:
Iterative making, refining composition, structure, and balance.
Sustainable Thinking:
A circular approach, considered, low-impact, and resource-conscious.
Impact
Reduced workshop waste sent to landfill by 60% annually through this initiative.
Demonstrates how waste can be transformed into purposeful design.
Highlights the role of design in sustainable innovation.
Showcased at New Designers, London.
Supported by The RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds).
